Résumé en anglais
Vast North American territory, the Province of Québec, Canada, wasfaced, like other regions, with the urgent task of protecting its old
cultures through the identification and inventory of their mater1almanifestations, and in particular, those making up its architectural
heritage. Traditional methods involving preliminary inventories or preinventorieswere deemed nat only ill-suited to meeting the expectations
of the parties concerned, but also too slow in view of the rapid erosionof its historical ressources as the 2Oth century draws to a close. Given
the limited success of such methods, the Province of Québec thereforeopted in 1976 for a new type of pre-inventory based on low-altitude
aerial photography. Both the results obtained and their particular usesare geared to the needs of the specialists from all disciplines who are
entrusted with managing and thereby protecting old cultures.
