Résumé en anglais
The construction of the new castle of Padua was the result of a series of projects and works. Excavations, sub-foundations, foundations and a considerable part of the building structures defined a first general structure, based on the project of Bartolomeo D'Alviano in 1515. Starting from an advanced stage of the works and up to the second half of the sixteenth century, radical changes to the project initial were ordered and executed, in particular as a consequence of the orders of the Dukes of Urbino Francesco Maria della Rovere and Guidobaldo II.It is thought to be useful today to study a monument of the past using the measurement system used for its construction. That is, a study that verifies the measures and the related proportional schemes present in the Castelnuovo helps us to recognize both an initial project and the subsequent stages of transformation. This is a methodology already experimented with satisfactory results by the author during the long restoration of Alvise Cornaro's palace at the Saint in Padua.
