The city of Marrakech has focused for many years on its tourist image in order to develop the economy of the region, exploiting the rich resources offered by the historic built heritage, intangible heritage as well as its natural setting and climate that represent the identity and reflect the Moroccan culture. The preservation and enhancement of this heritage are important issues, not only for visitors but also for the locals. If Marrakech has become an international tourist reference, it faces today a major challenge: the search for an an ecological balance while enhancing both urban and natural landscapes. The purpose is to reconcile the policy of industrial tourism development and strong local identity and traditions, while respecting the spirit of the place, the main objective is to improve the built environment, the landscape urban and quality of life of residents.

La ville de Marrakech s’est focalisée depuis plusieurs années sur son image touristique pour développer l’économie de sa région, en exploitant les riches ressources qu’offrent son patrimoine historique bâti et immatériel, ainsi que son cadre naturel et climatique qui
représentent l’identité et reflètent la culture marocaine. La sauvegarde et la valorisation de ce patrimoine sont des enjeux importants, non seulement pour les visiteurs mais aussi pour les habitants. Si Marrakech est devenue une référence touristique internationale, elle est confrontée à un défi majeur, celui de la recherche de l’équilibre écologique et de la valorisation du paysage aussi bien urbain que naturel. Il s’agit en effet de concilier une politique de développement de l’industrie touristique combinant une forte identité locale et des traditions ancestrales, tout en respectant l’esprit des lieux, l’objectif essentiel étant d’améliorer le cadre bâti, le paysage urbain et la qualité de vie des habitants.
