Ponti di ferro, Padova, Veneto, Italy
Résumé en anglais
The bridge with iron arches at the "Specola" in Padua was conceived and built between 1876 and 1880. The project signed by Francesco Turola, a municipal engineer, was attended by authoritative personalities of the nineteenth-century iron carpentry: Pio Chicchi and Paolo Rocchetti. The competing project by the engineers Colle and Sizzo, which envisaged a bridge with parabolic girders (Bow-String type), was rejected by the competition commission with questionable arguments.
