The following texts are the output of the activities carried out by the International Committee of Historical Sites and Gardens, which was created among the indifference of the public in 1968. The Committee would not have started working and later gained international recognition without the sympathy and understanding of ICOMOS, or without the perserverance, enthusiasm and friedly cooperation of all the Committee members. We may expect that these efforts will be useful to the training of future garden architects, as the analysis and understanding of gardens and their comparison with others are the basis and seedbed for present and future gardens.

Les textes qui suivent représentent le bilan de l'activité du Comité International des Jardins et Sites Historiques né dans l'indifférence générale en 1968. Il a fallu la compréhension de l'ICOMOS et la ténacité des membres du Comité, l'enthousiasme de ce dernier et sa collégialité amicale pour que ses travaux prennent leur élan et soient reconnus. Il faut espérer que ces efforts serviront à la formation des futurs architectes de jardins car l'analyse des jardins historiques, leur étude, leur compréhension et leur comparaison sont le fondement et le germe de jardins nouveaux.
