International conference of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HAWK) and the German National Committee of ICOMOS in cooperation with the Humanities Centre for History and Culture of East Central Europe at the University of Leipzig (GWZO) and the Working Group of German and Polish Art Historians and Monument Conservators. Hildesheim, 25 - 28 September 2013 - 25 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, this richly illustrated conference volume illustrates a recent and decisive chapter in the history of European heritage conservation: the period after 1945 on both sides of the Iron Curtain. 17 contributions from five different countries integrate the situation of monument conservation in divided and reunited Germany into a Central and Eastern European context. Those countries share a common tradition of monument conservation and were the most affected by the division. The multi-layered topic is treated in various perspectives of different regions and generations, with contributions from contemporary witnesses and young experts.

Hildesheim, 25. - 28. September 2013. – 25 Jahre nach dem Mauerfall veranschaulicht der reich bebilderte Tagungsband ein junges und prägendes Kapitel in der Geschichte der europäischen Denkmalpflege: die Zeit nach 1945 auf beiden Seiten des Eisernen Vorhangs. Mit 17 Beiträgen aus fünf verschiedenen Ländern wird die Situation der Denkmalpflege im geteilten und wiedervereinten Deutschland in einen mittel- und osteuropäischen Kontext eingebunden. Es sind die Länder, die auf eine gemeinsame Tradition der Denkmalpflege zurückblicken und die von der Teilung am meisten betroffen waren. Das vielschichtige Thema wird in Perspektivenwechsel der verschiedenen Regionen und Generationen behandelt, mit Beiträgen von Zeitzeugen und von jungen Fachleuten.
