Résumé en anglais
Dura Europos, founded about -300, defeated in- 113 by Parthians,165 by Romans, and 256 by Sassanians, who left it; rediscovered by chance on March 1920 the 30th, it has been excavated and détailed between 1922 and 1937 until the Second World War. Looked upon as the best example of an Hellenistic fortified colony, it has been studied since 1982 by CNRS and Syrian Museums. The place is unfit, because of the very brittleness of gypsum stone under rain water, and also because of the upheaval of the ground, after the excavations that made dams with pressure and erosion of water. Simple but careful solutions could be taken. A very extensive work is necessary because of the large size of the Place. But means and professional qualification are missing. Vestiges are turning very quickly into ruins, and must be protected by earth: the fifty years ago excavations must be filled. It will be very expensive and the international help will be absolutely necessary.
