The church of the benedictine abbey of Lambach, in Upper Austria, contains eleventh century mural paintingsof the life of Christ ( ca. 1089 ). These are in the
former west choir of which one portion is preserved inthe upper section of the two west towers and in the
arch which separates them. On a painted surface ofapproximately 200 square meters, 23 scenes and fragments
of scenes, several isolated figures and an ornamentaldecoration can be noted. Moreover, it was
possible to save some fragments which were above, in acrypt that had largely disappeared. Almost three
quarters of the surface have been uncovered in the lastten years.
