Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, St. Augustine, Florida, United States
Résumé en anglais
Castillo de San Marcos is located in St. Agustine, Florida, on the shore of Matanzas Bay, about a mile from the Atlantic Ocean. The Castillo is the oldest existing masonry fortress constructed of coquina stone. Its construction was started in 1672 and many modifications were made until its final deactivation as a Fort in 1900. The walls were once plastered with lime stucco, most of which has been completely eroded.
