The Municipality of Padua has recently promoted a study campaign, which was subsequently used to analyse the partial structural modification of the small canal of the "Prato della Valle". These studies had the final objective of identifying the original technology applied to the Prato della Valle system, in order to apply new and appropriate methods of restoration and consolidation. The data obtained led to the formulation of the idea of an elliptical canal. Investigations have been made on the architectural works of the Prato, that is, on the interactions existing among the water of the canal, the groundwater and the meteoric waters. The typical section of the canal was surveyed and examined, thus discovering the peculiar foundation system of the external walls and what caused the statues to be out-of-plumb, as everyone can see.
