This paper should be understood as the latest approach to the study of rock art of animals in pre-Columbian Colombia, conducted by the Indigenous Rock Art Research Group. This presentation will include two aspects that refer, first that all, to the express interest to inform to the international community about the high density of rock art sites, which were unknown internationally. Secondly, this presentation is meant as a work that refers to the first efforts to establish some possible links with other archaeological remains. And thus, the intellectual interest to understand this cultural phenomenon without resorting to general explanatory hypotheses, nor used the notion of ethnographic parallels, either to the traditional stylistic typological structures.

Esta ponencia debe entenderse como la más reciente aproximación al estudio de las representaciones rupestres de los animales en la Colombia precolombina, realizada por el equipo de investigación de arte rupestre indígena GIPRI. En esta presentación se incluyen aspectos que hacen referencia, en primer lugar al interés expreso de informar a la comunidad de investigadores sobre la alta densidad de sitios de arte rupestre, que eran desconocidos internacionalmente y en segundo lugar, al interés por establecer algunos posibles vínculos con otros vestigios arqueológicos en el área de estudio (altiplano Cundiboyacense. Lo que si resulta constante dentro de la formulación presente, es el interés intelectual por entender este fenómeno cultural, sin recurrir a hipótesis generales explicativas, ni tampoco a la noción usada de los paralelos etnográficos, como tampoco a las tradicionales estructuras tipológicas estilísticas.
