This publication presents the proceedings of ICOMOS France "technical days" on the concept of "historic urban landscapes". The HUL concept has been recently brought out by UNESCO (2005). Like its elder brother-concept the Cultural Landscape, it attempts to link the tangible and intangible dimensions of historic town and more generally urban areas, in order to implement relevant and intelligent conservation plans. Four workshops reveal the ongoing debates and define clear wishes and objectives to be reached, contributing to UNESCO's recommandation project on Historic Urban Landscapes.
