Résumé en anglais
This paper introduces the general situation, historical background, evaluation by the World Heritage Committee, and the historical evolution of Chengde Mountain Resort and its outlying temples. It points out that this is the most typical surviving emperor’s garden today. However, there are some challenges concerning both the heritage and the setting of these historic sites due to natural forces, societal changes, and rapid economic growth. We hope that through the master conservation plan, the spirit of the place can be reestablished and a harmonious relationship between its creators and users can be achieved.
