Metallic statuary and decorations have particularly boomed between 1800 and 1945. When the upper middle class came to power, towns were reorganized, introducing public spaces in a renewed urban network, now containing open spaces, places, sculptures and gardens, then populated by allegories and symbols: fountains, great men sculptures, animal sculptures, war memorials, urban and architectural ornaments… The objective of this international conference is to review the present state of knowledge on conservation-restoration of those metallic ornaments, but also to confront views, approaches, methodologies, solutions, and results.

La statuaire ainsi que les décors de bâtiment en métal connaissent entre 1800 et 1945 un essor particulier. Au moment où la bourgeoisie s’installe au pouvoir, les villes voient se construire, dans un tissu urbain renouvelé, des lieux ouverts, des places, des parcs, des jardins que l’on peuple alors d’allégories et de symboles : fontaines, sculptures des grands hommes, sculptures animalières, monuments aux morts, décors urbains et architecturaux… Cette conférence internationale sera l’occasion de faire le point sur les connaissances en conservation-restauration de ces œuvres métalliques, mais aussi de confronter les différents points de vue, approches ou solutions adoptées, ainsi que les résultats obtenus.
