Résumé en anglais
The core idea of the project is to work on the inhabited vernacular dwellings of World Heritage Sites. It explores the architectural dimension of building maintenance in order to contribute to the preservation of the principles of authenticity and integrity at these sites. Moreover, it also contributes to the interpretation of the historical evolution of local building culture in the sites of the dwellings, recreated through 3D visualization and augmented reality. This could become a powerful educational tool for children, young people and interested citizens, not only to learn and value the relevance of vernacular buildings which should be preserved, but also to enhance the intangible culture still in use nowadays in terms of the buildings’ architectural techniques, materials and building system maintenance.
These digital interactive communication tools are available on the digital platform to be created throughout the project, but will also be available in the local tourist offices or in the site interpretation centres which could open to improve the dissemination of the tangible and intangible knowledge relating to these European sites.
