Résumé en anglais
The Rocas de Usca Rock Art Site (RAS) is made up of a series of geographical, environmental and cultural elements that can be considered as a heritage complex, with a singular cultural significance around the environmental history and indigenous past of the region. The particularity of this RAS lies in its location on the shores of Laguna de la Herrera, in the middle of a relict of a subxerophytic ecosystem, which refers to the ancient landscape of the Sabana de Bogotá when it was covered by an extensive Pleistocene lake. In its surroundings, multiple material evidences of the natural history and of the first settlers of the region have been found, in particular: megafauna fossils (Pleistocene mammals); several archaeological sites related to the Preceramic, Herrera and Muisca periods; thirteen sites with rock art in the form of painting and one engraving. Elements that, as a whole, make this an exceptional space of the cultural and natural heritage of Mosquera and the region that deserves to be recognized, valued, protected and valued through comprehensive and sustainable management.
