Résumé en anglais
This book documents the Chinese-German collaboration in the 1980s and 1990s for the conservation of the terracotta army of the first Chinese emperor Qin Shihuang, preserved in its own museum in the Litong district of the province of Shaanxi. It investigates the monument in the framework of archaeology, art history and conservation science, with focus on the techniques and materials of the polychromy found on the scultures, especially the use of East Asian lacquer.
