This paper presents the conceptual approach initiated and developed over the many projects I have been associated. This approach is based on the need to take into account the spirit which are entrusted to the site when it is enhanced. How to identify this spirit built of polysemic relations between place / territory, memory / history, values / companies without the place being diverted from its historic meaning? My purpose reflects an approach featuring three themes: meaning, knowledge, consciousness, approachjuxtaposing theory and practice, first initiated by Parks Canada and then transposed to other projects I have contributed both in Canada and abroad.
